If Hoodoos and dinosaurs aren’t enough to fill Alberta’s Drumheller with bone-chilling excitement, how about adding hauntings and spirits to the mix? It seems they’re here, too and from the sounds of things, they’re not being shy about it!
Your 2.5 km ghostly tour starts and ends in downtown Drumheller. As you tip-toe around this spooky town full of unimaginable rock formations and dinosaur tales, we’ll point out old buildings and tell you about the lost souls that remain within. With his permission, Lothar Malmberg’s book, “Drumheller Ghost Walk” has been the source of much of the information for this tour.
As a matter of fact, things are often so mystical in these parts, that with a little imagination, you might even begin to question whether the thin line between “what is” and “what once was” even exists here.
Hear the interesting ghostly stories behind the final resting place of spirits at the Drumheller Cemetery, and the residents who never left home at the Johnston House. Why the ghost of the Haunted Spa never left and the strange orbs at 3rd Avenue Arts.
As you walk along you’ll hear haunted tales involving the Atlas Coal Mine and the mining industry, both real-life and paranormal. We’ll tell you some of the popular legends behind the Star Mine Suspension Bridge and it’s tragedy, the Spanish Flu and how the Water Tower became “ghostly”.
Take in beautiful, historical buildings and hear of the shadowy paranormal figures still allegedly there at the Miner’s Memorial Hall, Cactus Jacks Saloon at the Waldorf Hotel, the Last Chance Saloon and it’s haunted Rosedeer Hotel.
Discover the strange and popular legend of Chucky at the Valley Doll Museum, the Legion Hall’s giggling ghost and the popular tale of a ghost family with A Woman, a Child and a Grumpy Man. Hear about the tragedies and spooky tales at the East Coulee School Museum and what paranormal investigators found.
And finally, the last stop is the Central School, now home to the Drumheller Community Church, where ghosts have been seen from as early as 1920!
